You can learn a tremendous amount of information in setting aside time for a self-assessment after every win and lose. This  helps you go back and look at what might have aided or hindered your performance. Part of what you decide to work on to improve your performance should be based on knowing where the real problem lies. Why go back and revise only physical skills that are already highly refined when it is fairly obvious from the post competition evaluation that the problem was a loss of focus, dealing with distractions or of controlling activation. After a loss or poor performance you may not want to fill out a competition evaluation form but competitions and setbacks are unique and wonderful learning opportunities and you should really take advantage of them.

When being interviewed and you are asked the question "Are you going to win?" you must consider what response is going to be the most constructive and comfortable for you? Having stardard responses such as "The goal of any high performance competitor is to win, but if we don't, we will be satisfied with our preparation and giving our best effort.

The most important self-confidence that you may possess is not the conviction you will always win or that you will never make a mistake. The most significant self-confidence is the confidence in your ablity to acquire competencies, both physical and psychology. Possessing confidence in your ability to become competent you will not be intimidated by opponents' success or disturbed by your temporary failures.
