The bowling hand and the ball should be 4 to 6 inches in front of right foot at the end of the first step of a 4 step approach for a right handed bowler when placing the ball to the start of the backswing. The end of the second step for a 5 step approach.

During the ball placement the ball and the bowling hand must work together so at the end of the first step in a four-step approach (second step of five-step approach) the foot is directly under the ball to help support the weight of the ball and create good balance.

The bowling arm should not be overextended during the ball placement otherwise your body balance will be to far foward resulting in improper timing. Extend your bowling arm approximately 60 to 70% so the ball ends up in front of the bowling foot 4 to 6 inches.
